The Leading Edge November 2023
2024 Cooking for a Cause
Are you a master in the kitchen? Do you have a favorite thing you cook?
We are looking for chef teams (two people on each team) to prepare their favorite items to be included in the Cooking for a Cause event that will be held on January 21, 2024.
Chef teams will prepare 50 servings or approximately 150 sample-sized items to share with the guests. We encourage each chef team to raise $250. Awards are given to the team that raises the most money so you can certainly raise more!
Ticket-holding guests come to sample the food and they vote with cash on their favorite dish in each category. It is a fun event complete with a chef parade and awards ceremony!
The Give Back Gals host this event. We are a small (but mighty) group of women in Johnson County who started hosting fundraising events to raise funds for three organizations that are near and dear to our hearts. The organizations are Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County, the Johnson County Community Foundation, and Leadership Johnson County. The Give Back Gals are Jennifer Price, Kim Kasting, Stephanie (Wagner) Marten, Lee Ann Wilbur and myself. We would love to pack the chef field this year so please consider joining us.
Please email Jennifer Price by November 17 at jennifer.price@mtualsavingsbank.net if you would like to join the fun. Make sure you save the date on your calendar because tickets will go on sale soon.

Youth Leadership Group Looking for Cereal Boxes
Our Youth Leadership Academy Project Group is collecting cereal boxes for the Good Cheer baskets.
We have collected 111 boxes so far and enough cash to buy approximately 60 more, so we have a good start. The students set a goal of collecting 500 cereal boxes so they need your help.
You can bring cereal by the LJC Office located at 63 Henry Street in Franklin anytime before December 8. We have a front porch that you can leave things on if we happen to be away from the office. Just send Tandy a quick text message at 317.796.6458 to let me know to retrieve them once I get back to the office.
The young leaders are super excited about reaching their collective goal, so I hope we can all pitch in and help them meet, if not exceed their goal!
Spread Some Good Cheer in John County
Jake Sappenfield (2015) coordinates this Good Cheer Fund project. Bob Heuchan (2011) coordinated the project before Jake. It has been a long-lasting tradition that brings the Johnson County community together in a spirit of giving. Jake could use our help in distributing the Good Cheer Fund applications this year. If you are involved with an organization that could distribute the applications to some families or individuals in need, please feel free to share. Copies are attached in both English and Spanish. Completed applications can be sent to: GOOD CHEER FUND, P.O. Box 237, Franklin, Indiana, 46131.
LJC has been intricately involved with Good Cheer. Every single year, we have the important task of entering the data from the completed applications into the system that helps sort the addresses for a coordinated delivery process to get more than 900 baskets delivered to various locations throughout Johnson County. If you are interested in volunteering to enter applications at the end of November or early December, please email Tandy and she will coordinate with you. We could use 12 to 15 people please.
